Migration tool available
Remember that EventsGalore.net is shutting down June 1, less than two weeks away!

To help make migration easier, I made the "Export all shown" tool (the button is to the right of the "Date" column header next to "Mail several events..."). This is available only to calendar managers.

I think most of you have manually migrated future events, but if not, or if you want an archive of your many past events, this will be helpful. Simply view the events you'd like to migrate (e.g., click "Past Events here" to view past events), click "Export all shown", and import the resulting file into a Google (or perhaps other) calendar. You may want to create a temporary Google calendar for testing this to make sure it works the way you expect before importing into your production calendar.

But first, if you're migrating past events and you want ALL past events, you may need to lengthen the "viewable length of the past events listing" value. If you can't see all past events, click "Customize", search for this parameter (hint: it's the very last one), and enter 6000 (in days, which is slightly longer than EventsGalore.net has existed).

If you need help, click "Help", then scroll down to "Export Events" (about halfway down).

Thanks again for using EventsGalore.net!

EventsGalore.net will be shut down June 1, 2017
I'm going to shut down EventsGalore.net. Large email providers (gmail, yahoo) have begun to block email more aggressively in an attempt to fight spam, and this is negatively affecting subscribers to EventsGalore.net calendars.

It used to be that if your "from" address (e.g. gmail.com) didn't match the address of the host where the mail was actually coming from (eventsgalore.net), this was merely one of over 100 factors in determining if something was spam. Now they appear to be using that single criteria to completely *block* a message, without even returning it to the sender so that at least they know about it. This is a huge drag. the solution does not look simple.

I'm planning to shut things down on June 1, but if anyone thinks they'll need more time to find another solution, please let me know (in the next week or so, if you can).

I am considering making a tool to migrate events from EventsGalore.net to Google Calendar through a CSV file; stay tuned.

Thanks for using EventsGalore.net all these years and I'm sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

EventsGalore.net Downtime Sunday, October 19
EventsGalore.net is moving to a new faster server! The move will take place on Sunday, October 19 from 1-2 p.m.

During this time, all calendars will be unavailable while we move data from the old server to the new server.

The new server has a new numeric address, but the same name: EventsGalore.net. There is nothing that you need to do to use this new address. Please be aware that it may take a few hours for the new address to propagate to your ISP. Thus, we will leave the old server up in read-only mode so that users looking for calendars will still be able to view them.

We've scheduled an hour for this move, but we may be done before then; we'll post a short note in the login box when we're finished.

EventsGalore.net offices go solar!
The home offices of EventsGalore.net are now powered by the sun. Because we're concerned about the environment -- especially global warming -- we installed solar panels on our roof which generate 100% of our electricity.

Since May 1, about 600,000 Watt-hours of electricity have been generated from this system. That's the equivalent of 600 Watts on for 1000 hours. That's also 1200 pounds of CO2 spared from the environment.

Here's a detailed article.

Several new EventsGalore.net features
Here are some really cool enhancements that I just added to EventsGalore.net.

Changes for everyone:
  • A surprising number of people search the web for events and land on an EventsGalore.net calendar. So we made it easy for them to e-mail an event to themselves or a friend. To try this, just click on "Tell a Friend" to the right of an event title. The complete text of the event will be e-mailed. You can add a personal note, too.

Changes for calendar managers:
  • Calendar managers can "Tell a Friend", too, and as such, you have a couple of additional options.
    • You can e-mail an event to your entire list. This is helpful if a last-minute event isn't posted until after the automatic reminder went out.
    • You can e-mail several events: check the boxes to the left of each event title, and click "Mail several events".

  • There's a new way to send reminders! You can now choose to have one week's worth of events automatically sent on any day of the week (in addition to the old way of "before each event"). This is useful if you have lots of events, like several per week, since you probably don't want to overwhelm people with e-mails. You choose the day of the week. To use this, go to "Customize", and scroll down to (or search for) "Determine how often to send reminders".

I'm thinking about enhancing this to send two or more week's worth of events; would this be useful to you? If so, please contact me and let me know.

  • Have you ever wanted to have events for which e-mail reminders are not sent, like common events that repeat often? You can now create event categories for which reminders are not sent. This is useful if you don't want to bombard people with e-mails of ongoing events, for example. You'll also find this setting under the "Customize" menu, just after the event categories (see "never have reminders sent for certain event categories").

  • Other minor improvements have been made. The subject of reminder e-mails is now the title of your event(s). E-mails will now be "from" your name (not just your address). A bug was fixed in certain calendars that sometimes were unable to display the color table when selecting colors. And certain things now work faster.

I hope you enjoy these new features! Let me know either way; I'm always looking for feedback.

Recent Features Added to EventsGalore.net
Calendar managers... do you have a website? Would you like it to appear as if your EventsGalore.net calendar is an integral part of it? This is now easier for your webmaster to do. In particular, your navigation bars (and headers and footers) can be more easily integrated into your calendar, and you can use relative links. For details, go to EventsGalore.net and see "For Event Providers", then "How to integrate your EventsGalore.net calendar into your website", then click on "including your site's navigation bar", or go straight to http://www.EventsGalore.net/navigation.shtml .

The mini calendar (that we encourage calendar managers to put on their homepage) has improved. You can now choose where you want the date listed. For more details, see "For Event Providers", then "How to integrate your EventsGalore.net calendar into your website", or go straight to http://www.EventsGalore.net/integrate.shtml#mini .

And finally, calendar navigation has improved, lighting up functions and categories as a user moves their mouse over them.

EventsGalore.net Downtime Saturday, August 9
EventsGalore.net will be down from 11 pm Saturday until 5 am Sunday. Our web hosting provider, Tilted Planet, is moving to a new datacenter which will result in greatly improved speed and stability.

During this time, all calendars will be unavailable.

The new location requires that EventsGalore.net receive a new numeric address. There is nothing that you need to do to use this new address. However, it may take a few hours for the new address to propagate to your ISP. At the very most, it should take 24 hours for the new address to propagate around the world.

New EventsGalore.net features.
For calendar managers: Have you ever wanted an easy way to notify many people that you will be subscribing them to your calendar? You can now do this (under "Reminders") by using the "Notify" button; it will notify people of your intent to subscribe them. This gives them the chance to opt out beforehand. (The "Notify" button replaces the "Invite" button.)

There's more information in the online help related to subscribing others. You might also find this helpful: the first bit of the message to the users appears below the appropriate Notify/Subscribe/Unsubscribe button.

For everyone: Mini calendars that are displayed within another web page without a description now have links to the events! See the documentation under "For Event Providers" about website integration.

EventsGalore.net Downtime February 6
EventsGalore.net is moving to a new faster server! The move will take place on Thursday, February 6 from 4-5 PM.

During this time, all calendars will be unavailable while we move data from the old server to the new server.

The new server will have the same EventsGalore.net name as the old, but a new numeric address. There is nothing that you need to do to use this new address.

However, it may take a few hours for the new address to propagate to your ISP. Thus, we will leave the old server up in read-only mode so that users looking for calendars will still be able to view them. At the very most, it should take 24 hours for the new address to propagate around the world.

We've scheduled an hour for this move, but we may be done before then; we'll post a short note in the login box when we're finished.

Four New Features Added to EventsGalore.net
Four new features were added to EventsGalore.net today: printer-friendly format, pull-down menu of calendars, displaying a mini calendar within another web page, and manual mailings were made optional.

  1. Several people asked for a printer-friendly format of their favorite calendar suitable for inclusion in newsletters or just to post on the fridge. Click on the "Printer-friendly format" link at the bottom of a calendar, and you'll see it with just dates and events (no navigation bars, subscribe box, etc.).

  2. Curious about what other calendars are available? There aren't many yet, but all active calendars are now listed in a pull-down menu on the EventsGalore.net home page. Whenever someone creates a new calendar, it will be placed on the menu within half an hour.

  3. We're very excited to announce that you can now display a mini version of your calendar within another web page, commonly used to put calendars on home pages. You can even control what information gets displayed in this version of a calendar. For example, you can specify the number of events to display, the length in days of this calendar, whether or not the full description is displayed, and more. See the documentation under "For Event Providers" about website integration.

  4. Subscribers can now choose whether or not to receive manual e-mails sent by the calendar manager, just like they can choose reminders by category. Under "Reminders", select or unselect the "Manual mailings" box.

In fact, subscribers can choose to receive only manual mailings (no reminders); just select only the "Manual mailings" box.

Finally, we just wanted to share the good news that the EventsGalore.net trademark has been successfully registered with the US Patent and Trademark Office.

Four new features, and distributing EventsGalore.net announcements.
Four new features were added to the EventsGalore.net service today:
  1. Context-sensitive help. Click on "Help" from anywhere in a calendar, and you will get help related to the function you are performing.

  2. New features when adding an event. Do you have events where you don't want to list a duration (like someone's birthday)? You can now do this by making the duration 0 (for the hour and minute) and no duration will be displayed.

Likewise, if you want to add an event with no start time, select 0 for the start time and no start time will be displayed.

  3. Improved past events format. If you are allowing people to view your past events, you'll notice they are now listed most recent first. This is more intuitive than "oldest first".

  4. New "press release" mode. EventsGalore.net is good at upcoming events, but now also has a "press release" mode for distributing announcements. In this mode:
    • Your calendar is dedicated to announcements.
    • Viewers of your calendar will see all past announcements listed most recent first.
    • Announcements will be delivered the morning after they are posted.

This is very handy for distributing press releases while also keeping them posted online!

Under the "Customize" function, see the viewable length of your calendar setting (near the bottom) for more information.

EventsGalore.net will begin distributing announcements about the EventsGalore.net service to calendar managers (and anyone else who subscribes) using the method above through this announcements calendar.

Color selection made much easier.
Calendar managers: to select any color (e.g. the background color), simply use the "Customize" function to "Click here for some choices", and then click on a color. You used to have to type in the six digit hex number.
